Note from Liseetsa, Founder of Private Practice OIT:
Unfortunately at this time, year 2017, oral-immunotherpy (OIT) has yet to be recognized as a “proven safe and effective” treatment for life-threatening food allergies by all of the professional allergy and immunology associations. Therefore, we are only providing links to the top two general allergy and immunology organizations. Never to fear, we are in the process of forming our own OIT-centered Society for the training of board certified allergists and the advancement of OIT as the standard of care it needs to become. ~Liseetsa

Epinephrine for Allergic Reactions
For her Girl Scout project Susan created a video called “How to Stay Alive”: an educational video about how to use the Epi Pen correctly–and filmed while Susan self-injected during a reaction. The video has received a lot of positive attention and was shared widely among food allergy groups. In 2016 Susan revised the video to reflect the new 3-second injection Epi-Pen instructions (versus 10 seconds previously).
Doctors
Is your allergist “board-certified?” Copycats and opportunists can be found in any field and walk of life. When it comes to life-saving medical treatment, we must be careful. Never let anyone other than a board-certified allergist try to treat someone with food allergies. Use this handy tool from “Certification Matters” to check the credentials and license of your provider.
You can also check for membership in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, a professional organization with more than 6,800 members in the United States, Canada and 72 other countries. This membership includes allergist / immunologists, other medical specialists, allied health and related healthcare professionals—all with a special interest in the research and treatment of allergic and immunologic diseases.
